Scheduling Zoom Meetings within Canvas
Zoom allows you to schedule and display meetings directly in your Canvas course page. Students can view upcoming Zoom sessions and join them from the Zoom section within your course. Find detailed instructions here from Yale’s Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning.
Scheduling Zoom Meetings for a Course
Go to your Canvas course and click on the "Zoom" tool in your course navigation menu.
The Zoom tool's landing page shows the information on upcoming meetings and previous meetings. Click the "Schedule a New Meeting" button to create a new meeting.
It is best to include your course title in your Zoom meeting so students can easily identify what course the Zoom meeting is for.
You will be brought to a page to enter the meeting information including the topic and date.
Once you have filled out the necessary information, click the "Save" button. You will now see a screen confirming the details of your meeting settings.
Common Options for Managing Recordings and Hosts
Enabling Recording
Record the meeting automatically - This option enables Zoom to record the session automatically when the meeting opens. The host can select to record the Zoom session to:
Local computer - The recording will be processed and stored on the Host's computer, which can then later be uploaded into the Media Library.
Cloud (recommended) - The recording will be processed and stored in Yale’s Zoom Cloud storage. It can be transferred to the course’s Media Library by request to YLS AV.
If there is an ADA Accommodation, the class must to be recorded. Please inform YLS AV if you know there is an accomodation.
Alternative Hosts
Set up co-hosts (aka alternative hosts) for your sessions. They can start your meeting without you, and manage some features of your session.
Only users who have a Yale Zoom account can be set as a co-host. If the person you are trying to add as a co-host does not have an account already, they will need to log into https://yale.zoom.us/ for their Zoom account to be provisioned.
