Email 

Your email account is on the Yale University Microsoft Office 365 system.  

Accessing your Yale email  via a web browser  

  1. Login to the Office365 Web Access portal (OWA) at: https://outlook.com/yale.edu.  

    1. Use your full email address as your user name when using Office365 via the web (e.g. john.doe@yale.edu). Enter your password when prompted.

Setting up the Outlook email client 

  1. Outlook for Windows
    Open Outlook.

  2. At the Welcome screen, click Next.

  3. When asked if you want to set up Outlook to connect to an email account, select Yes and then click Next.

  4. The Auto Account Setup wizard opens. Enter your name, your email address using firstname.lastname@yale.edu, and your NetID password. Then, click Next

  5. Outlook will complete the setup for your account, which might take several minutes. When you are notified that your account was successfully configured, click Finish.

  6. You may need to restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.

Outlook for Apple Mac

  1. Microsoft Outlook for Mac uses profiles to manage your accounts within Outlook.

  2. Launch Outlook to start the account creation wizard. Click the Exchange or Office 365 account option.

  3. On the Auto Account Setup window, enter the following for each field:

    1. Email Address: Enter the primary address of your NetID firstname.lastname@yale.edu

    2. Authentication Method: User Name and Password

    3. User namefirstname.lastname@yale.edu

    4. Password: Enter the password of the account you are configuring.

    5. Ensure Configure Automatically is checked.

  4. Click Add Account. A summary will be displayed upon successful account configuration. 

  5. Modify the account description field to something more descriptive; such as your name.

  6. Close the Accounts window to start using Outlook.


Accessing email using an iOS smartphone or tablet 

 

To setup your Yale email on a mobile device download the Outlook App from the App Store. 

  1. Open the Outlook app 

  2. Tap Add an Account

  3. Tap Office 365 

  4. Enter your first.last@yale.edu email address and NetID Password and click Sign In. 
    If prompted, sign in again using the same email address and password.  
    This will direct you to a Microsoft’s Permissions Page. 

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Yes

  6. You will see a message that your account has been added successfully.

Redirecting email to another account 

Some visiting faculty prefer to have all email re-directed to their home University, or other account.  This is discouraged for confidential data, but instructions can be found here.
