Secure Computing
Â
Secure Computing at Yale Law School
Using VPN (Off-Campus Access)
When accessing Yale network or library resources from off-campus you must establish a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection. There are two ways to use VPN on your computer. The first is to use the AnyConnect software, installed on YLS issued computers. The second is to use the website provided for this purpose, https://access.yale.edu.
Â
Â
Multi-Factor Authentication (DUO Everywhere)
Yale requires Multi-factor authentication (MFA) for access to most systems. As part of your Law School setup you will be automatically enrolled in DUO Everywhere and, once enrolled, you will be required to use two-factor authentication when logging into the following systems:
Yale Central Authentication Service (CAS)
Cisco Any Connect Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Setting up MFA
Yale uses the Duo application for MFA. Acceptable devices for MFA authentication include smartphones, cell phones, landlines (such as your office or home phone), tablets, or hardware tokens. The easiest and most efficient way to complete authentication with Duo is to download the Duo app to your smart phone. If you do not have a smart phone, contact YLS IT for assistance. We can help you choose the best device for your situation.Â
Â
The free smartphone app Duo Mobile can be downloaded from the App Store for use on your iPhone, iPad, Android, or BlackBerry device.
Â
For device specific instructions please see Enrolling and Managing devices or Managing Your Devices from DUO.
Logging into Yale resources using DUO Everywhere
When you access Yale resources (CAS or VPN) offsite, you will first be prompted for your NetID credentials and then be prompted for an additional form of authentication. You can choose which device the authentication request is sent to and which authentication method you would like to use (Duo Mobile App, SMS text message, or phone call).
Â
For device and application specific instructions please see Logging into VPN and MFA protected resources from off-campus.
Anti-Virus Protection
All YLS computers come with pre-installed endpoint protection software that protects your computer against viruses and other forms of malware. This software is called Cylance Endpoint Security. It runs in the background constantly, and manual scans are not necessary.
